Are you new to Duke and want to link your existing UpToDate account to Duke's institutional access? Here's what to do!

If access through your previous institution or personal subscription is still active:

You must let this lapse before you can link your account to Duke's institutional access. This will enable you to keep your existing username and password, as well as any accrued Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. Once it has lapsed, access UpToDate via the Medical Center Library’s Website. Login with your existing username and password.

PMIDs, DOIs, and PMCIDs Oh My!

Let’s take a moment to demystify these commonly used acronyms. They are all unique identifiers for an article (like a barcode), which can be used to easily link to or find an article online.

A PMID (such as 30256255) is a unique numerical identifier for an article in PubMed. You will notice every article included in PubMed has a PMID under the citation/abstract. You can search this number in PubMed or our E-Journals page to go straight to that particular article.

Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Guide Now Available!

We now provide access to the Johns Hopkins ABX (Antibiotic) Guide, an infectious disease resource intended for all healthcare personnel. The guide features frequently updated, evidence-based information on infectious diseases, including disease diagnosis; drug indications, dosing, pharmacokinetics, side effects, and interactions; pathogens; management; and vaccines.

WebMD Sold to KKR for $2.8 Billion

On July 24, WebMD was purchased by Internet Brands, a subsidiary of KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), for approximately $2.8 billion. WebMD is among the biggest sites in the world for health information, particularly among those outside the health professions. In June of this year alone, the site had 71.1 million unique visitors. Internet Brands is a company operating an array of business-to-business and business-to-consumer Websites for vertical markets such as the automotive and travel industries.

Keeping up with Changes to ClinicalKey Content

ClinicalKey is an online search tool for e-books, journals, Procedures Consult, First Consult, surgical Vitals and other clinical information. ClinicalKey provides access to more than 1,000 e-books in medicine and surgery and evidence-based content to help nurses find answers to clinical questions at the point of care.

Over time, the content of ClinicalKey changes. Books and journals are added and removed from the database. Here are two easy ways to keep up with changes to ClinicalKey content:

Library Resources Now Accessible in Maestro Care!

Do you access UpToDate through Maestro Care?

Users accessing UpToDate through the Maestro Care toolbar or through a patient's chart (problem list, MAR, orders, etc.) will have immediate access to other evidence-based resources, including ACP Journal Club, the Cochrane Library, ClinicalKey, ClinicalKey for Nursing, Lexicomp, MedlinePlus (for patients), and PubMed.

When you click on the UpToDate button, searches should still work the same way and users’ Maestro Care IDs will still be sent to UpToDate for automatic log-in to receive CME credit for searches.  

You now also have access to other resources through the Medical Center Library & Archives. Though the search of additional Library resources is live, we are continuing to refine the search features. If…
