    Duke University Hospital is located on the corner of Erwin Road and Fulton Street in Durham, NC (27710). Access to the Library is available via the walkway in the back hallway of Duke Hospital.

      • Parking

        Accessible parking for the Medical Center Library & Archives is available in the Duke Hospital Parking Deck across from Duke Hospital North and the Clinic Parking Deck on Trent Drive, off of Erwin Road. Both of these parking garages have handicapped accessible routes through the buildings.

        Duke Hospital Parking Deck (Erwin and Fulton)
        1. Park at a designated Handicapped space (next to elevators A and B on all levels).
        2. Take elevator A or B to Level T.
        3. If using elevator A, exit to the left at Level T.
        4. If using elevator B, exit to the right at Level T.
        5. Follow the Tunnel to Duke Hospital.
        6. At the end of the tunnel at Duke Hospital, take the elevator to Level 1.
        7. At Level 1, exit the elevator to the left
        8. Go down the hallway (the one farthest to the right), bypassing the turn to the Cafeteria. Follow the signs to the Searle Center.
        9. At the end of the hallway, walk go through the doors on the right leading outside to the Seeley G. Mudd building. (Sign will say "Searle Center")
        10. When you reach the Mudd building, turn left.
        11. Take either entrance into the Library.

        Duke Clinic Parking Deck (Trent Drive)
        1. Park at a designated Handicapped space (next to elevators on all levels).
        2. Take the elevator to Level 2.
        3. Take the bridge from the parking garage to Duke Clinic (Level 2).
        4. Take the gray elevator to Level 1, one floor down, and exit to the left.
        5. Go through gray automatic doors (usually open) and pass the Wells Fargo Bank on the left.
        6. Turn right just past the help desk. (Blue Zone elevators will be on left.)
        7. Go to end of the corridor to the lobby with the stairwell and the second help desk.
        8. Go to the right and past the help desk to the back of the lobby, toward the corridor.
        9. Take the corridor to Duke Medicine Pavilion Level 2. (Cancer Center entrance will be on the right.)
        10. At end of the corridor, turn right and use the elevator or stairs to go to Level 1.
        11. When exiting the elevator, make a left turn and use the glass doors to the outside plaza.
        11. Go diagonally to the right and across the plaza to the Seeley G. Mudd Building.
        12. Take either entrance into the Library.

        Rainy day route from the Duke Medicine Pavilion
        1. Go under the glass canopy to the Trent Semans Center building and turn right to enter the building.
        (You will see large monitors on the right and the Nosh Cafe on the left.)
        2. Go straight back along the hallway. 
        3. Exit the Trent Semans Center building and turn right.
        4. Entrances to the Seeley G. Mudd Building are on the left.

      • Duke Accessible Transportation

        Duke offers accessible transportation via campus vans and buses in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. All Duke Transit vehicles are equipped to accommodate wheelchairs.  Additional information on accessible parking and transportation is available via Duke Accessible Transportation and Duke's Disability Management System.

        Duke faculty, staff and students may request van rides during certain hours and within a specific boundary through the Duke Van Service. Request a ride by calling 919.684.2020.  The recommended pickup and drop off for the Medical Center Library is at the ground level entrance to the Searle Center (10 Searle Center Drive).

        Please note: The Searle Center entrance may be locked after 6 pm and on weekends.  Recommended access during these hours is through Duke University Hospital.

    • Driving
      • Via I-40 from East (Raleigh)

        1. Take the 147 Durham Freeway Exit (Exit 279 B).
        2. From there, take the Elba Street/Trent Drive Exit (Exit 15 A).
        3. Enter the right lane and follow straight onto Elba Street.
        4. Enter the left lane after the road splits.
        5. Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your left. 

      • Via I-40 from West (Greensboro)

        1. Take exit 270 for US-15/US-501 toward Chapel Hill/Durham.
        2. Turn right onto US-15 N/US-501 N/Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd.
        3. Take exit 107 for 751 toward Duke Univ/W Campus.
        4. Turn right onto 751 Cameron Blvd.
        5. Take the 1st left onto Erwin Road.
        6. Turn left at Fulton Street (across from main entrance to Duke Hospital).
        7. Turn right onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck.

      • Via I-85 from South or West (Greensboro)

        1. Take Exit 172 onto the Durham Freeway.
        2. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
        3. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck. 

      • Via I-85 from the North

        1. Take 15-501 Bypass South, Duke University/Chapel Hill Exit (Exit 174 B).
        2. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
        3. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck. 

      • Via US 70 from the East

        1. Take 15-501 Bypass South, Duke University/Chapel Hill Exit (Exit 174 B).
        2. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
        3. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck. 

      • Via US 15-501 from the South (Chapel Hill)

        1. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
        2. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck.

      • Via US 15-501 from the North (Roxboro)

        1. Follow the US 15-501 Bypass to the right when it branches at the Exxon station.
        2. The street name will change to Duke Street.
        3. Follow Duke Street to its intersection with Club Boulevard, by Northgate Mall.
        4. Turn right onto Club Boulevard.
        5. Follow Club Boulevard until it ends.
        6. Turn left onto Hillandale Road, which changes into Fulton Street.
        7. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck.

      • Via 147 Durham Freeway from the East

        1. Take the Elba Street/Trent Drive Exit (Exit 15 A).
        2. Enter the right lane and follow straight onto Elba Street.
        3. Enter the left lane after the road splits.
        4. Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your left. 

      • Via NC 751

        1. Turn onto Erwin Road.
        2. At the fourth stoplight, turn left onto Fulton Street.
        3. Take the next right onto Elba Street, and then turn right into the Parking Deck. 

      • Via Main Street (from downtown Durham)

        1. Turn left from Main Street onto Erwin Road.
        2. Follow Erwin Road through two stoplights.
        3. At the third light, turn right onto Fulton Street.
        4. Turn right onto Elba Street.
        5. Drive into the Parking Deck on your right. 

    • Parking

      All driving directions lead to the Duke Hospital Parking Deck across from Duke Hospital North. This is the preferred parking location for walking to the Library.

      If the Hospital Parking Deck is full, please follow the signs to the Clinic Parking Deck on Trent Drive, off of Erwin Road.

      The Bryan Research Building Parking Garage on Research Drive is the closest lot to the Library. Only permit holders are allowed to park in this garage; however, if you have a parking pass for a Duke campus lot, your Duke ID card or parking hang tag should allow entrance into the garage between 5:00 pm and 6:00 am weekdays, and on weekends between 5:00 pm Friday and 6:00 am Monday morning. Cars need to be moved out of the lot by 6:00 am the next weekday to avoid being ticketed. If you need evening or weekend access and do NOT have a Duke parking permit, contact Duke Parking and Transportation for assistance or call 919.684.7275.

      • Duke Hospital Parking Deck (Erwin and Fulton) 

        1. Go to the street level of the Parking Deck.
        2. Walk across Erwin Road to the entrance of Duke Hospital (North).
        3. Walk into the entrance and to the back of the lobby to the bank of elevators.
        4. Turn right at the elevators and walk down the hallway (the one farthest to the right), bypassing the turn to the Cafeteria.
        5. At the end of the hallway, walk through the doors on the right leading outside to the Seeley G. Mudd building. (Sign will say "Searle Center")
        6. When you reach the Mudd building, turn left.
        7. Take either entrance into the Library.

      • Duke Hospital (North) 

        1. Go to the public elevators in the Main Lobby of Duke Hospital (North).
        2. Turn right at the elevators and walk down the hallway (the one farthest to the right), bypassing the turn to the Cafeteria.
        3. At the end of the hallway, walk through the doors on the right leading outside to the Seeley G. Mudd building. (Sign will say "Searle Center")
        4. When you reach the Mudd building, turn left.
        5. Take either entrance into the Library.

      • Duke Clinic Parking Deck (Trent Drive)

        1. Take the bridge from the parking garage to Duke Clinic (Level 2).
        2. Take the escalator, stairs, or silver elevator to Level 1, one floor down.
        3. If you take the escalator or stairs, walk straight ahead and follow the "Duke Clinic" directions below.
        4. If you take the elevator, turn left and follow the "Duke Clinic" directions below.

      • Duke Clinic 

        1. From the entrance lobby, take the corridor straight ahead.
        2. You will see overhead signs along this route for "Concourse to Hospital."
        3. Pass the gray elevators on the left.
        4. Walk through gray automatic doors (usually open) and pass the Wells Fargo Bank on the left.
        5. Turn right just past the help desk. (Blue Zone elevators will be on left.)
        6. Walk to end of the corridor to the lobby with the stairwell and the second help desk.
        7. Walk to the right and past the help desk to the back of the lobby, toward the corridor.

        9. At end of the corridor, turn right and use the elevator or stairs to go to Level 1.

        12. Take either entrance into the Library.
         
        Rainy day route from the Duke Medicine Pavilion
        1. Walk under the glass canopy to the Trent Semans Center building and turn right to enter the building.

      • West Campus

        1. If standing at the West Campus Bus Stop facing Duke Chapel, turn right.
        2. Walk all the way to the last building (the back of Duke Clinics South), which is the only one facing your direction.
        3. Enter the door, go up the stairs, and follow the winding hallway.
        4. Take the first available left turn.
        5. Walk to the end of the long hallway passing the Red and Blue Zone elevators.
        6. Walk to end of the corridor to the lobby with the stairwell and the help desk.
        7. Walk to the right and past the help desk to the back of the lobby, toward the corridor.
        8. Take the corridor to Duke Medicine Pavilion Level 2. (Cancer Center entrance will be on the right.)
        9. At end of the corridor, turn right and use the elevator or stairs to go to Level 1.
        10. At the bottom of the stairs or when exiting the elevator, make a left turn and use the glass doors to the outside plaza.
        11. Walk diagonally to the right and across the plaza to the Seeley G. Mudd Building.
        12. Take either entrance into the Library.

      • Science Drive

        1. Walk down Science Drive until you reach Research Drive.
        2. Cross the street (downhill) near the Levine Sciences building.
        3. Follow the sidewalk along the left side of the Bryan Research Building.
        4. At the end of the sidewalk, cross the circular driveway (Searle Drive) to enter the Seeley G. Mudd Building.
        5. Turn right after entering the building and follow the hallway.
        6. At the end of the hallway, turn right.
        7. Take the elevator up to Medical Center Library & Archives.
