MedOne Education Access Ending
Posted On: Wednesday, November 19, 2025 - 12:30 by Brandi Tuttle

Each year, the Duke Medical Center Library & Archives evaluates its electronic subscriptions through a data-driven review to ensure responsible stewardship of our collection funds. These assessments help us provide the most useful resources for Duke Health and Duke University while phasing out subscriptions with consistently low use.

As a result of this year’s review, access to MedOne Education will end for Duke University users on January 1, 2026. This decision follows several years of usage analysis.

If you need an article, book, or chapter no longer available at Duke, you may request it through our Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan Services.

Access Issues for Incoming Trainees: What You Need to Know
Posted On: Friday, June 20, 2025 - 12:35 by Beverly Murphy

If you're an incoming trainee (student, intern, resident, fellow, etc.), you may have some issues accessing certain Duke systems from off campus before your official start date, especially some library resources or LMS modules like BLS or ACLS.

Even if you’ve received your Duke NetID, you may still be listed as an affiliate in the system until your status updates, likely your first day (though it could be sooner). Until that happens, full access to some resources from off campus may be restricted.

What to do in the meantime:
You can access required materials, including BLS, ACLS, etc. by connecting to Duke WiFi on campus or using a…

New NIH Public Access Policy Now in Effect
Posted On: Wednesday, June 18, 2025 - 10:34 by Lesley Skalla, Ph.D.

The 2024 NIH Public Access Policy now requires that all peer-reviewed publications resulting from NIH funding—and accepted for publication on or after that date—be made immediately available in PubMed Central (PMC) on the official date of publication. PubMed Central is the National Library of Medicine’s free full-text digital archive. This change replaces the 2008 Public Access Policy, which allowed a 12-month embargo before articles became publicly accessible in PMC. That embargo option has now been removed, ensuring that NIH-funded research is available to the public without delay. The policy went into effect on July 1, 2025.

What Researchers Need to Know

It’s important for NIH-…

Originally scheduled to go into effect on December 31, 2025, these changes have been expedited by the federal government, and it is imperative that researchers understand and comply with the new requirements to avoid jeopardizing their current and future funding opportunities.

Key Changes to Note:

  • Immediate Submission to PubMed Central: Researchers must submit their Author Accepted Manuscripts to PubMed Central without delay. This ensures…
