Thanksgiving Hours

The Medical Center Library & Archives will close at 5:00p on Wednesday, November 27th. Library staff will be unavailable and the Library will be closed for seating and room reservations on Thursday, Nov. 28th and Friday, Nov. 29th. Normal hours and reservations will resume on Saturday, November 30th.

It’s election season! The 2024 General Election is on Tuesday, November 5 with the early voting period open from Thursday, October 17 through Saturday, November 2.
- Karsh Alumni and Visitors Center on Duke’s campus will serve as an early voting location in Durham County from October 17 through November 2. Duke students, faculty, and staff who are eligible and registered to vote in Durham County are encouraged to utilize the early voting location at Karsh. This global event has been celebrated since 2007 (first as Open Access Day) with the theme this year continuing the call to put “Community over Commercialization” and asking us to prioritize approaches to open scholarship that serve the best interests of the public and the academic community. NIH RPPR to Require New DMS Info

Fall has arrived and change is in the air! NIH grantees will now need to report on the status of data sharing in Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs). Beginning October 1, 2024, NIH will issue new DMS questions that align with the NIH Final Policy on Data Management and Sharing.
What does this mean for researchers? If you have a NIH grant for which the NIH DMS Policy applies (i.e., you have an approved DMS plan), you will now be asked to report in your RPPR:
- Whether data has been generated or shared to date
- What repositories any data was shared to. Be sure to include the unique identifiers assigned your dataset(s) i.e., a digital object identifier (DOI), or other URL…

Coming in May 2025: New NIH Biosketch Requirements

Attention NIH researchers—the NIH is adopting the use of Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support to be used with all applications and Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) by May 25, 2025. Establishing Common Forms is a collaborative effort between Federal research agencies to harmonize disclosure requirements related to biographical sketches & Current and Pending (Other) Support, as described in the National Security Presidential Memorandum – 33.

Time to Update Your Lexidrug Mobile App Code

Subscription codes for the Lexidrug app (formerly Lexicomp) expire yearly at the end of August. To continue using the app, you must add the new authorization code to your account. Go to Lexidrug and click on the Mobile App Access button. Select your platform and indicate if you are a new or existing customer (those who already have the app installed) for instructions on adding the new code to your subscription. Important Updates to E-Journals Interface

We have recently implemented a new library system, and there are some changes that might affect your experience using our library resources as a result.
One of these changes is our e-journals interface. With the new system, our e-journals interface looks significantly different. All of the content you are used to seeing remains available in this new interface, and you are still able to search for e-journals from our library website.

Replacement of Lower Level Air Handling Units

A building wide HVAC upgrade began on November 8, 2023 and will continue through the December 2024.
Mon. 8/5-Wed. 8/7 (starting at 6a) Air handling unit 4 will be replaced but no impact on air flow comfort. Occupants may be impacted by significant noise but mostly on 8/5/24.
Mon. 8/12-Fri. 8/16 (starting at 6a) Air handling unit 3 return fan will be replaced but no impact on air flow comfort. Occupants may be impacted by significant noise but mostly on 8/13/24.
Fri. 8/23-Sun. 8/25 (starting at 6a) Air handling unit 3 will be replaced and there will be no air flow to Level 2 during this time. Temporary cool units will be put in place but occupants may not be as comfortable as in normal operation.…

As we prepare to launch our new library system, Alma, on July 10, 2024, we want to keep you informed about a few important changes that might impact your experience at the Medical Center Library & Archives.
- The Service Desk and Reading Room will close at 3p on July 5 and reopen at 8a on July 8.
- Requesting items from the Books & Media Catalog will be temporarily unavailable from July 5 to 10. During this time, access to our online journals, articles and databases will remain available.

Self-Checkout Retires

All the libraries at Duke University, including the Medical Center Library & Archives, are migrating to a new library system called Alma. As part of the transition, we will be retiring our self-checkout machine beginning July 1.
If you find an item that you would like to checkout, please bring it to the Library Service Desk, located on level 2R. Our staff are eager to assist you with any borrowing questions and transactions at the desk.
