NIH Common Forms Preview Now Available in SciENcv

The NIH is moving closer to implementing the new NIH Common Forms, originally scheduled to take effect on May 25, 2025, but later postponed indefinitely. Preview versions of these forms are now available in Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv).

These previews include:
•    Biographical Sketch
•    Current & Pending (Other) Support
•    NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement
•    Plus, corresponding instructions.

The official versions are expected in November 2025, with full implementation planned for 2026 (exact date to be announced this fall). So you have a short window of time to explore the new forms before they are required. These preview forms are intended to help researchers prepare for the transition and must not be used for current NIH submissions.

What Researchers Need to Know About the Preview Forms:
•    ✅ You can save, reopen, and edit preview forms in SciENcv.
•    ❌ PDF-download functionality is disabled.
•    ⚠️ Preview form data will not be transferred to the official forms —preview content will be deleted once official forms are released.
•    🚫 Do not use preview forms for NIH submissions. Continue using the current NIH Biosketch and Other Support formats until the Common Forms are officially implemented.

How to Prepare

  1. Explore the NIH (PREVIEW) Biographical Sketch Common Form page
  2. Get familiar with SciENcv
Log in, click + New Document, and select the NIH Biographical Sketch PREVIEW Common Form. You can import data from either eRA Commons or ORCID, from a previous biosketch in SciENcv, or start from scratch manually.
  3.  Link your ORCID to your eRA Commons profile —this will be required once the NIH Common Forms are implemented. Make sure your accounts are connected.
