Choosing a journal to publish your research can be stressful, especially if you are new to the publishing process. The Medical Center Library has a few tips to get you started.
Decide Early
Our first suggestion is to decide where you are going to submit your article early in the writing process. Even better, decide where you might publish as you are planning your research study! You will want to make sure the journal is a good fit for your research and understand what their expectations are for your research and the manuscript.
Some journals only publish specific types of articles and often will have specific reporting requirements that you need to consider early on in the writing process.

What Puts You on the Map? Archives Month 2024

Every October, the Society of North Carolina Archivists celebrates Archives Month! This year’s theme, What Puts You on the Map?, brings to mind Duke University Medical Center’s SEDO system, a wayfinding system rolled out in 1971 that left its mark on the hospital.

Suicide Prevention Resources

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) provides shareable resources to raise awareness about suicide prevention. These include infographics, social media messages, and educational videos. Key topics covered include recognizing warning signs, taking action to help someone in crisis, and spreading information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The resources are available in both English and Spanish, and are intended to help communities spread knowledge about how to prevent suicide and support those at risk.
Help raise awareness about suicide prevention by sharing informational materials based on the latest research. Everyone can play a role to help save lives. Share science. Share hope. #shareNIMH

Time to Update Your Lexidrug Mobile App Code

Subscription codes for the Lexidrug app (formerly Lexicomp) expire yearly at the end of August. To continue using the app, you must add the new authorization code to your account. Go to Lexidrug and click on the Mobile App Access button. Select your platform and indicate if you are a new or existing customer (those who already have the app installed) for instructions on adding the new code to your subscription. Important Updates to E-Journals Interface

We have recently implemented a new library system, and there are some changes that might affect your experience using our library resources as a result.
One of these changes is our e-journals interface. With the new system, our e-journals interface looks significantly different. All of the content you are used to seeing remains available in this new interface, and you are still able to search for e-journals from our library website.

Medical Student Research Posters Available Online

The Third Year at the Duke School of Medicine provides M.D. program students the opportunity to dig deep into biomedical-related research. The results of these research projects are presented annually at the Medical Student Research Symposium. Now in its 55th year, the symposium, held this year on August 1 – 2nd in the Trent Semans Center for Health Education, highlights the unique scholarly accomplishments of third year medical students. Medical student posters from 2020 – present are available in the Medical Center Archives’ MEDSpace digital repository of scholarly works from the institution.

Lexicomp is now known as Lexidrug™!
Lexidrug, through the UpToDate® suite of tools, is a collection of content sets and clinical tools that provide robust clinical drug information. The home screen provides you quick access to Lexidrug content via a global search or through their clinical tools. The blue clinical tool bar at the top of the database still connects you directly to individual clinical decision support tools such as Trissel's IV Compatability, Drug Identifier, Interactions, Calculators, and more.
