The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has broadened its definition of clinical trial and is instituting the use of a new forms packet for collecting information about human subjects research at the time of proposal submission. These changes are substantial and will impact applications (new, resubmission, or revision) and awards with submission dates after January 25, 2018.

In an effort to answer questions related to these changes, several offices at Duke are coming together to offer office hours at the Medical Center Library & Archives (see schedule below). This year we transitioned to a new e-journals platform which resulted in a few access issues for our e-journals page, but they have now been resolved.

There is however a change in the process for authentication purposes. If you access our e-journals page from off-site, you now have to log-in with your DukeNet ID and password. On-site access is not affected.

Megan von Isenburg has been appointed Associate Dean for Medical Center Library & Archives (MCL&A). She has dedicated 13 years of her career to our library, most recently as Associate Director for Research and Education and Liaison to Graduate Medical Education and Global Health. During her entire career and twenty-four-year tenure at Duke, the medical and library professions have both undergone many changes and faced many challenges, yet Pat has admirably led and guided the Duke Medical Center Library & Archives into the digital age. As of November 1, 2016, you can pay your invoice for Interlibrary Loans (ILLs) online at https://payments.mclibrary.duke.edu/ill using a credit card. Just enter the invoice number, payment amount, and billing information.  This is a secure payment system which uses DukePay and meets all of Duke’s criteria for handling online credit card payments.

Copies from any of the Duke Library collections are still free to the Duke community. Duke patrons will only receive an invoice for a journal article if we have to get it from a non-Duke library.

As of Monday, June 13th, our Website has been refreshed! The features that you love and are accustomed to using are still here, along with a few new ones that we've added.

Our fresh look and feel has different colors, bigger fonts, an incorporated search widget  on every page, quick access to chat, restyled newsletter and blog, enhanced mobile features, and more. This refresh will also allow us to be more flexible in our maintenance and any future modifications.

UpToDate has changed its remote access authentication policy requiring Duke users to log into UpToDate from the Duke network from every 30 days to every 90 days.   Hopefully this will help those working or studying away from Duke for short periods of time to easily retain access to this important resource.

A hot topic in the news recently is the increasing number of scientific studies that have been discovered to be wrong and are retracted by their publishers. Following that, the October 2012 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences claims that the majority of retractions are due to some type of misconduct, and not just honest mistakes.
