Changes Coming to NIH Applications and Peer Review in 2025

The NIH is implementing several changes to grant applications and peer review processes in 2025. These changes will affect how grants are submitted and reviewed. For the latest updates, visit their Changes Coming For 2025 webpage.

Summary of Changes in 2025:

  • Simplified Review Framework: A new, streamlined framework for the peer review of most research project grant (RPG) applications will begin with submissions due on or after January 25, 2025.
  • Updated Application Forms (FORMS-I): New application forms and instructions will be required for submissions with due dates on or after January 25, 2025.
  • Revised Fellowship and Training Grant Applications: Changes will be made to the NIH Fellowship application and review process, as well as updates to Institutional Training Grant applications.
  • Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Support: Standardized forms for biographical sketches and current and pending support will be used for due dates on or after May 25, 2025. New requirements include:
    • Mandatory ORCID ID : All senior/key personnel must have an ORCID ID linked to their eRA Commons Personal Profile.
    • SciENcv for Biosketches: The Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) must be used to complete Common Forms (i.e., Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support) and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement to produce digitally certified PDF(s) for use in application submission.

If you have questions about using ORCID IDs or SciENcv to create your biosketch, please email a librarian at the Medical Center Library at medical-librarian@duke.edu.
