Changes to Access & Request Articles from PubMed
Posted On: Monday, June 30, 2025 - 08:23 by Li Ma

On Monday, June 30th, we're updating our back-end library systems, which may affect how you request articles from PubMed. When you click the get it@Duke button from PubMed, the results pages may look different than what you're used to seeing.

What This Means for You:

  • Articles we have access to: While the interface may look different, you can still access all articles our library provides, just as before.
  • Articles we don't have access to: Simply click "Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Request – Med Center Users" to request them through our streamlined process.

Access Issues for Incoming Trainees: What You Need to Know
Posted On: Friday, June 20, 2025 - 12:35 by Beverly Murphy

If you're an incoming trainee (student, intern, resident, fellow, etc.), you may have some issues accessing certain Duke systems from off campus before your official start date, especially some library resources or LMS modules like BLS or ACLS.

Even if you’ve received your Duke NetID, you may still be listed as an affiliate in the system until your status updates, likely your first day (though it could be sooner). Until that happens, full access to some resources from off campus may be restricted.

What to do in the meantime:
You can access required materials, including BLS, ACLS, etc. by connecting to Duke WiFi on campus or using a…

New NIH Public Access Policy Now in Effect
Posted On: Wednesday, June 18, 2025 - 10:34 by Lesley Skalla, Ph.D.

The 2024 NIH Public Access Policy now requires that all peer-reviewed publications resulting from NIH funding—and accepted for publication on or after that date—be made immediately available in PubMed Central (PMC) on the official date of publication. PubMed Central is the National Library of Medicine’s free full-text digital archive. This change replaces the 2008 Public Access Policy, which allowed a 12-month embargo before articles became publicly accessible in PMC. That embargo option has now been removed, ensuring that NIH-funded research is available to the public without delay. The policy went into effect on July 1, 2025.

Two-Sided Desk
Posted On: Friday, June 13, 2025 - 11:55 by Rebecca Williams

We have many spaces to sit and work in the library! We recently highlighted the Richmond House Room as a spot for library time travel and today we want to share some more information about another place in the library that might make you feel as you have traveled back in time! In the stairwell landing between levels 2 and 3 of the library is an interesting two-sided desk that has a long history at Duke.

Before it came to Duke, it was the property of the Reverend Henry Montagu Butler, D.D., headmaster of Harrow School (1859-1885), dean of Gloucester (1885-1886); master of Trinity College, Cambridge (1886-1918); and vice chancellor of Cambridge University (1889-1890). He used this desk at Harrow and later in his…
