This photography exhibit draws from The Stories Project, which is funded by the Trent Foundation and Duke Signature Care with faculty mentorship from Drs. John Ike and Jane Gagliardi. The Stories Project is conceptualized as a way to improve connection between patients who are made vulnerable by intersecting identities as well as interactions with the healthcare system and the people who take care of them.
The collaboration between the clinical team and the participating patients seeks to humanize and empower patients, provide a safe space for patients to share their stories, and create opportunities to foster empathy. It is easy to forget that behind every diagnosis lies a unique story filled with laughter, sorrow, and hope.
