How to Submit UpToDate CME Credits to ABIM

Step 1: Access your UpToDate account

  • Always access UpToDate through the Library’s website or while on the Duke network. Here’s the direct link: UpToDate (Duke login required)
  • Once in UpToDate, click Sign In in the upper right corner.

Step 2: Navigate to MOC settings

  1. Click the down arrow next to your name in the top right corner.
  2. Select My Account from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the pop-up window, go to CME/MOC/STATE and select CME home.
  4. From the left-hand menu, scroll down and click Settings.
  5. Select MOC Boards.

Step 3: Add your ABIM credentials

  1. Click Add a MOC Board and select American Board of Internal Medicine.
  2. Enter your six-digit ABIM ID number and date of birth (must match your ABIM record exactly).
  3. Click Save to link your accounts.

Step 4: Redeem your credits in UpToDate

After linking your accounts, you must redeem CME credits within UpToDate to have them submitted to ABIM for MOC points.

  1. Go to your CME dashboard by clicking CME (next to your name).
  2. Click Redeem Now for credits you’ve already reflected on, or Select Credits to complete reflections for new activities.
  3. Your redeemed credits will be automatically submitted to ABIM. Track progress in the MOC Status and History section.

After submission

  • Approval: Processing may take up to 48 hours by ABIM.
  • Monthly notifications: ABIM emails a monthly CME/MOC summary; real-time updates are available in your ABIM Physician Portal.
  • 100-point requirement: Earn 100 MOC points every five years to maintain certification, in addition to meeting assessment requirements.
