Zotero: A Free Reference Management Tool

Zotero is a freely available reference management and writing tool that makes capturing citations easy. It has a browser plugin that works in Chrome, Firefox or Safari, and with one click you can add a journal article, Web page, video, or many other resource types to your library.

One of Zotero's strengths is that it is uncomplicated to us, making collaborative projects, especially with people at other institutions, relatively simple via Google Docs.

Many are familiar with EndNote as a helpful citation management tool that assists with collecting, saving, and citing papers. But sometimes EndNote can feel somewhat cumbersome to use. If you are on the market for a new citation manager, you might want to try out these other options.

Are You Still Doing Your References By Hand?

Stop typing out those references!  Quit looking up where the commas are supposed to go in APA or AMA or whatever style you need to use. Avoid making piles of articles on your desktop. You should be using a reference management tool!

Zotero (zoh-TAIR-oh) is a free citation management tool that conveniently “lives in” your Web browser, where you do the majority of your work and research. Most commonly, Zotero works as an add-on for the Firefox browser. However, there is a Zotero standalone version that is compatible with Safari and Chrome.
