Practice Changing Recommendations
Did you know that UpToDate has a specific section called Practice Changing UpDates designed to alert readers of changes that the editorial staff think may impact clinical practice? You can easily see this list of Practice Changing UpDates by searching for "practice changing updates" or by clicking on the "What's New" link on the green tool bar and then clicking on the "Practice Changing UpDates" topic.
How fast do these recommendations happen? UpToDate lists one example where an UpDate occured five days after the release of the results of a randomized drug trial. In general, the timing is based on the release of evidence, UpToDate's peer review process, and the clinical significance.
By the way, the "What's New" section lists selected important updates and lists them by speciality. This is a great way to stay current in areas you may not read up on as much!
